Serving Libraries and Library Consortiums

Merit Network is a collaborative community of education and research organizations that utilizes Merit's high-performance network, essential services, and exceptional Member support to help your organization achieve its mission and goals.

Since 1992, Merit has provided libraries in Michigan with networking expertise, professional learning opportunities, and additional services to help them achieve their educational and research goals. Merit is a trusted partner, serving district libraries, public libraries and library consortiums across Michigan.

USF E-rate Program

Merit has been participating in the E-rate program since its inception. As the chosen service provider for many of Michigan's libraries, ISDs, and school districts, we know that planning ahead for your connectivity needs helps to streamline the application process and reduce headaches in the years ahead. For application window information, please see our E-rate section.

If you haven't worked with Merit before, give us a call today to talk about how our end-to-end services can benefit your organization. If you're already a Member, contact us with any questions you have about planning for your bandwidth, voice, and e-mail needs.

Merit's High-Speed Backbone Network

Merit manages the nation's longest-running regional network, which has been in continuous operation since May 1973. Merit's fiber-optic network infrastructure has grown to cover a majority of Michigan, and Merit provides dedicated, high-speed connections for libraries and library consortiums in the state. The network enables libraries to share resources and save costs with the Merit On-Net/Off-Net Service.

Merit's statewide 10 gigabits-per-second (Gbps) backbone provides a flexible, robust architecture to support the needs of our Members.

Network Engineering Expertise

Merit Network's engineers are respected experts in the field and can provide customized configurations to link one campus or multiple locations to Merit's backbone network. Whether it's configuring BGP, IPv6, subnetting, or multicast, our networking team can find the right solution to meet the network needs of non-profit organizations.

Merit's engineers can consult on designing your local network or improving your network's security.
