High Performance Computing: Theory and Practice
(Register now)

This talk will provide an overview of High Performance Computing (HPC) in theory and how to use a computing cluster in practice. Topics to be covered include cluster computing concepts, common parallel programming models, MPI and OpenMP concepts, and a University of Michigan Flux Cluster case study (creating, submitting, observing, and analyzing cluster jobs; common pitfalls and how to avoid them; and debugging). Finally, we'll wrap up by discussing options and issues for transitioning to HPC in the Cloud. Short C and Fortran sample programs will be provided.
